Money-Smart Mondays

Are your kids launch-ready? 🚀

Money-Smart Monday

with John Lanza

Hello, friends!

Launching our kids: Are they really ready?

My daughter graduates from college in less than two months, and I'm feeling the urgency. Have my wife and I truly prepared her for real-world money decisions? To find out, I invited financial readiness expert Tony Steuer on The Art of Allowance Podcast. Tony created "The Get Ready Blueprint," a step-by-step guide to help kids thrive financially on their own. Tune in to ensure your kids (And mine!) have the financial foundation they need.

Would you PAY your kids to read books?

When our kids were young, my wife and I offered to pay half the cost of any book they wanted to buy. Investor Evan Wilson, a podcast alum, takes this tactic a step further. He pays his kids to read meaningful money books, like the classic The Millionaire Next Door. Listen to Evan explain, read my LinkedIn post and let me know what you think.

Is abundance making us unhappy?

We're surrounded by messages of abundance—more money, more experiences, more "everything." But could constantly chasing abundance undermine our happiness? Jeff Bezos, who seemingly "has it all," can only experience a fraction of what's on offer to us on Earth. (Or, in Jeff's case, even what's beyond our big blue marble.) Perhaps we need more intentional scarcity. Could recognizing our limits and appreciating the essentials make us happier and more fulfilled?

A quote to pair with the podcast

Here's a simple framing that pairs well with my conversation with Tony about getting our kids ready to launch.

"When dreaming, imagine success. When preparing, imagine failure."
—James Clear

We can even go further and view these words through the abundance/scarcity lens from above:

"Imagine abundance when dreaming and scarcity when preparing."

Pair that last idea with this powerful thought:
